Iron Fist: Marvel cast Game of Thrones actor as Daniel Rand
Marvel have not to put a foot wrong on the television front and they look to continue the trend by adding another superhero to the mix. Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage played by Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter respectively have received positive response from the fans. Elodie Yung’s Elektra and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher seem to be promising additions to the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil. Marvel plans to eventually unite all its heroes in a series called The Defenders.
Marvel has finally ended months of speculation surrounding the martial arts superhero by announcing that Finn Jones, best known as Game of Thrones’ Ser Loras Tyrell, has been cast as the main character in Netflix’s upcoming Iron Fist series.
In the comics, like many other superheroes Daniel Rand too faces the tragedy of losing his parents. while seeking out the mystical city of K’un L’un, his parents are killed under grave circumstances. He is taken as apprentice by Lei Kung, the thunderer, who teaches him martial arts. By plunging his fists into the molten heart of the dragon Shou-Lao the Undying infused the dragon’s superhuman energy into Rand, giving him the power of Iron Fist. As an adult, Rand returns to his native New York and begins a career as a superhero.
Some fans have urged Marvel to cast an Asian actor in the lead role, even though the character is white in the comics. Others countered that picking an Asian actor simply because the hero’s ability is martial arts would be a stereotypical move.
There’s no word yet on when the eventual Iron Fist series will debut, but fans can expect an announcement soon enough.
