One Batch Two batch, Penny and Dime: The Punisher is getting his own Netflix series
Frank Castle played by Jon Bernthal in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil made quite an impression on Marvel fans and after months of rumors, Netflix has finally decided to go ahead with the standalone spin-off series of The Punisher. Following the character’s prominent role in the second season of the streaming platform’s popular comic-book series Daredevil, the vigilante is getting his own spinoff and Jon Bernthal is set to reprise the role of Frank Castle, army veteran turned anti-hero, for the show. Writer and producer Steven Light-foot will serve as show-runner.
In the comics, The Punisher made his first appearance the Amazing Spiderman comics. he character was created by writer Gerry Conway and artist John Romita Sr., with publisher Stan Lee green-lighting the name.
The second season of Daredevil introduced Frank Castle to the viewers, who came to Hell’s Kitchen with only one mission – to eliminate every person involved in the death of his family. The spirit of vengeance and military training allowed to him to take out his targets with precision and put him in cross-hairs of Daredevil. Now that Netflix have decided to go ahead with their plans of giving The Punisher his own series, the big question that arises is on the target audience of the show. He is known to be a killing machine and he is not afraid to cross the line and do what needs to be done. Will this show be R rated? Marvel may decide to follow the trail left by the Merc with a mouth, Deadpool, and may decide to make it a R Rated series. These are questions that we will find out in a month’s time.
The Punisher will be the sixth series collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Television, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones, along with upcoming offerings like Jessica Jones-spinoff Luke Cage and Iron First. There is currently no news on the release date on the first season of the Punisher but with a show-runner in place, the first season could be on Netflix as soon as next year. Additionally, the EW report teases that he may also appear in The Defenders.
