Thor Ragnarok Trailer: 5 things You Need To Know

The much-awaited trailer of Thor Ragnarok is here and it has definitely gone well with the Marvel fans. It has already become the most popular trailer for a Marvel movie. The previous two Thor movies did not seem to be the best works of Marvel Cinematic Universe but it looks like they have finally played the right chords. This trailer seems to give Guardians-esque feel to the new Thor movie with projections of many spaceships and outer space.

Taika Watiti, the director of the Thor movies, was inspired by the artworks of Jack Kirby (one of the founding fathers of Marvel comics) and we find a lot of his visual influence in this movie.

So let’s see whether we missed something in the trailer, starting off with:

Hela destroying Mjolnir

Thor Ragnarok

This scene in the trailer was the most badass way to introduce Cate Blanchett’s Hela. Thor hurls his hammer towards Hela who catches it without breaking a sweat and Mjonir crumbles in her hands. We knew that Thor was going to lose his beloved Mjolnir at some stage of the movie as the concept art depicted him wielding swords instead of the Hammer. Hela, the Asguardian goddess of death rules over Hel and Niflheim and intends to rule over the dead Asgardians as well. Cate Blanchett had earlier revealed that Hela was trapped in the afterlife but she is accidentally freed and seeks to take revenge by destroying Asgard. This puts Thor in the cross hairs of Hela who is hell bent on killing Asgard.

Introduction of new characters

Thor Ragnarok

Important new characters are introduced in the Thor Ragnarok trailer like Valkyrie, Skurge, and Grandmaster. Let’s begin with Valkyrie, who is the leader of Valkyrior (a group of warrior goddesses). In the trailer, it looks like a War of Valhalla has taken place and Valkyrie has lost the battle to none other than Hela. She receives quite a bit of screen time in the trailer almost as much as Thor. She is also seen as working with the Grandmaster on the planet of Sakaar and pitches up Thor against and Hulk in the final scene of the trailer.

Thor Ragnarok

Another new character added to the Thor movie is the Grandmaster played by Jeff Goldblum. He is one of the elders of the universe just like Benecio Del Toro’s The Collector. Marvel has certainly deviated a bit from the original looks of the Grandmaster as provided in the comics. He is known to be a gambler who has an interest in gambling on battles. He is the reason behind the match up of Thor and Hulk.

Thor Ragnarok

Skurge also known as the Executioner could be another important character introduced in the trailer. He is famous for wielding the magical double bladed axe and has ferocious strength. In the trailer he seems to be using a gun similar to what he used for his final battle in the Marvel comics. There is a chance that there might not be a happy ending for the Executioner.

The return of Loki in Thor Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok

A Thor movie cannot be complete without bringing in the enigmatic Loki played Tom Hiddleston. The last time we saw Loki was in Thor: The Dark World in which he sat on the throne of Odin. Since then, it looks like Loki has many tricks up his sleeve like pitching Hela against Thor.

Say goodbye to Goldilocks

Thor Ragnarok

Thor will finally have to say goodbye to his golden locks as Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie thinks it would only be appropriate to cut his hair as a mean to shorten his pride. Even after his unfortunate captive hairdo, Thor seems to pull it off.

Planet Hulk

Thor Ragnarok

One of the most exciting scenes in the Thor Ragnarok trailer was Hulk ripping off a gate in his armor inspired by Planet Hulk storyline. The last time we saw Hulk was in Avengers: Age of Ultron in which he was seen flying off in a jet to an unknown destination. It looks like he ended up in Sakaar, where he has a job of fighting for a living and has attained more than just a gladiator status.

I think that covers everything and if you feel that we have left out something then please drop a comment below.
