Chloe Moretz is to play scaly heroine Ariel in Universal’s live-action adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale. Chloe Moretz who is best known for her role in Kick-Ass and other movies like If I Stay is ready to rock yet another character with her talent .
Not much is known about how this version will compare to previous iterations of the Hans Christian Andersen story, which follows a mermaid who wished to become human after falling in love with a man she saved from drowning.
Richard Curtis, the screenwriter of Love Actually , Four Weddings and a Funeral is in talks to pen the latest draft of the script. The flick is in good hands though, as in production company Working Title’s recent credit include Senna, Anna Karenina and Les Miserables.
“[The films I’ve worked on] have pretty heavy subjects“, explained Moretz last year in an interview. “Acting for me is not just being happy-go-lucky. That’s my real life. Acting for me is doing the opposite of who I am” . Considering Moretz extensive experience in drama and horror, Moretz casting as the titular character may hint that this upcoming reinterpretation is more in line with original, darker tale than Disney’s 1989 animated feature film.
The Little Mermaid’s release date hasn’t been announced yet.
