There has been speculation that Thor: Ragnorak will see a female lead villain. So far the villains in the MCU have all been men, but there is a rumor going that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor might be pitched up against a woman this time. According to Lainey Gossip, “Marvel is also bringing their first major female villain into their cinematic universe.” The names like Hela, Goddess of Death and Amora the Enchantress have been rumored to be likeliest foe of Thor to appear in the movie. Last month, it was also confirmed that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is to have a significant role in the movie.
Marvel has been accused of being shy in casting a female lead villain. The first time we saw a female villain, she was a relative unknown introduced with Guardians of the Galaxy. Nebula ended up being more than a headache for step-sister Gamora, but she was far from the main villain, which ended up being Ronan the Accuser. So let’s have a look at the possible characters that could don the role of the lead villain in the movie:
Hela, Goddess of Death
She is the ruler of Hel and Nifflehiem. Odin appointed her goddess and ruler of the northernmost realms of the dead. She had dominion of the over the souls that did not die in battle. She resides in the Valhalla which was built by Odin to house the souls of all those who died as heroes. Although, she had always had greater ambition, one of them being the ruler of the nine realms. Hela possesses attributes to common to Asguardian gods. She is also bestowed with the power to claim the souls of any worshiper of the Asgardians and the Asgardians themselves and take them to Hel or Niflheim, as well as able to travel nearly anywhere within the Nine Worlds in an instant. Due to her ambitions, she has been in repeated conflicts with Thor and Odin. She has occasionally formed alliances with other rulers of demonic realms such as Blackheart, Doramammu, Mephisto and Satannish. Doramammu is known to be the greatest foe of Doctor Strange. Hela could be the link to bring Doctor Strange in the Marvel cinematic Universe.
Amora the Enchantress and The Executioner
Amora is born in Asguard and has special love interest in Thor. In the comics, she was sent by Odin to kill the love interest of Thor, Jane Foster. On her failure, Odin exiled her from Asguard. She began learning magic as an apprentice of Karnilla, Queen of the Norns. She used her magic and charm to control the minds of people. She uses the Executioner as her muscle. She is also a member of Masters of Evil, a team comprising of supervillains led by Baron Zemo.
There have been no hints as to who the possible female villain could be in the Thor: Ragnarok cast, though the big rumor is that she’ll be played by someone big, like Cate Blanchett. Of course this is still speculation, as reported by IGN.
Thor: Ragnarok will film in Australia and is set to open in theaters on November 3, 2017.
