It’s finally that time of the year; San Diego Comic-Con is less than a week away. SDCC will take place from July 9-12, and promises to be huge for comics, television, movies, and games. However, for the first time in four years, Marvel Studios will not be taking part in the event.
Sony Pictures Entertainment and Paramount Pictures are also skipping the convention. This means that we won’t get a look at the new Spiderman reboot, Captain America: Civil War, Ninja Turtles 2 and no news about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Star Trek Beyond, Doctor Strange and the future of the Transformers franchise. Nevertheless, Warner Bros. has a massive lineup of DC movies and if done right, their presence may just compensate for everything we’ll be missing out on this year. But without further ado, let’s take a look at what to expect from this year’s event:
Let’s begin with the TV panels. The shows that will be present include Game of Thrones, Heroes Reborn, The Walking Dead, Scream Queens, Orphan Black, The Flash, Arrow, Gotham, Agent Carter and much more.
FOX may show fans a glimpse of the new X-Files six-episode event series. The Game of Thrones panel looks to outdo itself this time around with “Game of Thrones: Experience the Realm”, which will allow attendees to experience the world of Westerns in inventive new ways. The Iron Throne as well as the Mountain’s sword will be present. However, George R.R. Martin has announced that he will not be at this year’s event. Hopefully, we also get an extended look at Legends of Tomorrow!
The gaming panels are quite strong this time around. Microsoft has a special Halo 5: Guardians panel, that will tell us more about the game’s story and insight into the mysteries surrounding the Master Chief. Capcom will showcase an in-depth look at Street Fighter V. Call of Duty Black Ops III’s Zombies mode is set to premiere worldwide, with Treyarch also revealing the game’s Collector editions. Blizzard Entertainment will be present, which could mean previews of Overwatch, Starwatch or even a brand-new IP. BANDAI NAMCO will be showcasing Tekken 7 and may have a surprise in store, considering the franchise’s 20th anniversary. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Pillars of Eternity and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided are among some of the other games that will be featured.
Now for the most important, the Movie panels. Marvel’s panel in the famous Hall H is always one of the biggest and most anticipated ones at the annual fan event. This year though will play out differently, and possibly for the better. Warner Bros. will be showing footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
An unveiling of the full Justice League lineup is also possible. The presentation will show stars such as Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) together for the first time! However, Disney has a chance to steal the show as well with Star Wars The Force Awakens. Fox’s presentation will mainly include the prominent cast members of X-Men: Apocalypse, the Fantastic Four reboot, and the Maze Runner sequel.
Legendary’s panel will also be present, with Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak as their highlight. Last but not the least, Lionsgate will be promoting films such as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and The Last Witch Hunter.
Thus, this year’s Comic-Con is set to raise the benchmark with a multitude of panels covering television, movies, games and comics. For more about what to expect, be sure to check out the official schedule in the link below :
