Batman V Superman was released this week with immense Hype and Expectations. While the response has been mixed with some liking the brand of cinema portrayed in Batman V Superman, and some calling it a complete washout. The one aspect of the movie that everyone agreed on was the surprises Zack Snyder threw in the movie including the controversial ending, which sees the death of Superman. Since Justice League is just around the corner, many of us were in complete surprise with the series of events taking place in the climactic scene.
If not Superman, Who will lead the Justice League? What will be the fate of Justice League? When will Superman return?
These were some of the hot questions asked across various fan forums. Luckily, Zack Snyder has just answered few them.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Synder explained the thought behind the climax of the movie was taken from 1992 Comic “The Death of Superman” – “I felt like we had to kill Superman in this movie in order for us to have been serious with the entire premise of the film. And that’s not to say that he is clearly gone forever“.
Regarding the Future of Justice League, Zack Snyder revealed “I wanted Bruce Wayne to build Justice League. With Superman around, it’s a different conversation when you create the Justice League, right ? its like, me and Superman, we want to make Justice League.Bruce Wayne having to go out and find these seven samurai by himself, that’s a lot more interesting of a premise. I also felt like, without Superman, there is definitely a vulnerability to the team that they’re gonna need to figure something out, you know? Superman does represent the powerful. He’s the Michael Jordan of Heroes, he’s gonna score”
This leaves us with a lot of clarity about the ending and what expect from Justice Part One. Unlike in the comics, the movie won’t have Superman leading the troops but rather Batman will lead the way.
While we know that Superman will arrive soon in the DC Extended Universe, and also Henry Cavill has already signed up for Justice League Part One and Part Two. In comics, Superman gets revived from the power of the earth’s sun, which was shown during the nuclear scene with Doomsday in the movie as well. Will we get to see the same logic used in upcoming Justice League to bring Superman back from the dead ? Snyder went to throw some light on it “He comes very close to death in space and the reason why we did that is because I wanted to show, and keep the idea in viewers mind that he can come pretty close to death and the sun can revive him, or he can be revived. I think something more gonna need to be done. There’s a mythological journey for Superman. There’s the birth, death, and resurrection thing. And when you bring him back, who knows what he is when he comes back ”
